you\u2019ve never needed to change one before.<\/span><\/p>\n Read on for simple, clear instructions.<\/span><\/p>\n This is not an in-depth guide to changing every single coil compatible with every single device but rather a general guide.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s a fact of vaping that, sooner or later, you\u2019ll need to change the coil.<\/span><\/p>\n A lot of new vapers want to know how long their coil will last and the infuriating answer is: you need to change them when the wire has worn out or (more likely) the wick has burned, which varies according to the device and the vaper (if you want to know more about how different vaporisers work, go to Different devices and how they vary<\/a><\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n Most vapers need to change their coil between every one and two weeks but this varies hugely based on your individual vaping habits.\u00a0 Those who vape a lot will need to change it much sooner than those who don\u2019t vape much.<\/span><\/p>\n If you don\u2019t change it when it needs it, your vape juice will start to taste burnt.\u00a0 Also, if it wears out, it will start to leak \u2013 you\u2019ll usually have changed it long before then.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n There should be instructions in your manufacturer\u2019s manual.<\/span><\/p>\n As a general rule, it\u2019s really simple.<\/span><\/p>\n It should only take a couple of minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n If you have a top-fill or bottom-fill tank (or clearomizer), the coil will be attached to the tank, which will be screwed into the battery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For a top-fill tank:<\/span><\/p>\n For pod systems:<\/span><\/p>\n With these, you\u2019ll buy a liquid pod that has a coil in it, which means you won\u2019t need to change it separately, you just change the pod and get a new coil each time.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n There are a few things you can do to get it to last longer.\u00a0 Even though they\u2019re simple steps, they\u2019re effective.<\/span><\/p>\n However, they won\u2019t stop you having to change it sooner or later.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0 It\u2019s really important to use the right coil for your device (or the settings coil once it is past its best.\u00a0 That\u2019s not to say you can\u2019t get some more out of them, though.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n E-liquid leaves a residue.\u00a0 It will taint the flavour of your new e-liquid when you add it in.\u00a0 This is especially noticeable if you have been using strong flavours like coffee, menthol or plant.<\/span><\/p>\n VG and sweet flavour concentrates are particularly well-known for gunking up coils, which will stop the e-liquid saturating your wicking material and will affect flavour and vapour production.\u00a0 If you leave this too long, your wicking material will stop absorbing the vape juice, creating a burnt taste.<\/span><\/p>\n There are many different types of coil but replaceable ones (the ones you\u2019ll want to clean) fall into two categories: coil heads for tanks and coils for rebuildable atomisers.\u00a0 The way you\u2019ll clean each type is very different.<\/span><\/p>\n These were designed to be cleaned and have parts replaced as they get past their best.<\/span><\/p>\n The first thing to do is to take the wicking material out.<\/span><\/p>\n There are a few things you can do to clean your coils.<\/span><\/p>\n This can only be done once or twice as a quick clean before you need to clean them properly.\u00a0 First, take the cotton out of the coil and then press the fire button a few times until you burn off the residual e-liquid.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let them glow too much \u2013 you only need a light dry burn. Let them cool down and then re-wick them.<\/span><\/p>\n Remove the coil from your mod and remove the wicks.\u00a0 Run it under the tap to wash all the remaining vape juice off your coil.\u00a0 Leave it to dry on a paper towel.<\/span><\/p>\n If the e-liquid is sticky or gunky then you might want to brush it lightly with a toothbrush to clean all of it away.\u00a0 Rinse it under the tap \u2013 to do that, remove the coil from your mod and take the wicking out of the coil and then run it under warm water, gently brushing the build-up away.\u00a0 Leave it to dry on a paper towel and then re-wick it.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n These coils heads are designed to be replaced when they have worn out.\u00a0 They can be cleaned but not perfectly. They have the wicking material inside them already and this makes it impossible to clean thoroughly.<\/span><\/p>\n If you clean them, you\u2019ll get a few more days to a week out of them (depending on how much you vape), so it can be worth it.\u00a0 However, drying them is simply a case of giving them time to dry naturally so it\u2019ll take a while.<\/span><\/p>\n To clean replaceable coil heads, soak them in water, vinegar or cheap vodka for two to three hours.\u00a0 Take them out and rinse them under warm water.
