Here at ELFC we cater to both experienced DIY mixers and those giving it a go for the first time. We\u2019re always happy to help those new to DIY mixing and regularly get emails and phone call from vapers requiring some knowledge on the basics.<\/p>\n

So with that in mind, here are 5 Things All New DIY Mixers Should Know.<\/p>\n

1: Flavour Concentrates are based in PG<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a question we get a lot and it makes sense considering that most DIY Calculators<\/a> ask about the base of your flavour concentrates. Whilst it is true that there are some flavour concentrates out there that are in a VG based, the vast majority are in a PG base including all of those currently on our site at the time of writing. PG is a much thinner liquid and carries flavour better than VG. In fact, PG is used in to carry drugs in some medications such as inhalers for example.<\/p>\n

2: Steeping isn\u2019t always necessary<\/span><\/p>\n

Another question we get asked a lot is how long e liquids need to be steeped. This varies from flavour to flavour. For example, the Lemon Meringue Cake<\/a> flavour concentrate from our A-Liquid<\/a> line has a recommended steep time of 6 weeks, whereas the Honeydew Melon, Strawberry and Watermelon<\/a> flavour concentrate, also from our A-Liquid line, has a recommended steep time of just 5-7 days. As a simple rule, bakery, custard, plant and sweet flavours usually require a longer steep time than fruity and menthol flavours. Also, sometimes steeping isn\u2019t required at all. Take Heisenberg<\/a>, for example, all you need to do is mix the bottle up, give it a good shake and wait for the bubbles to settle, then you\u2019re good to go!<\/p>\n

3: There are two ways of measuring ingredients<\/span><\/p>\n

Our DIY Calculator<\/a> measures out your recipe in mls. This means that you\u2019ll probably need syringes to make sure you use the right amount of concentrate, PG, VG and nicotine. However, we will soon be adding a calculator to work out your recipe in grams. To mix by weight, you need to grab yourself a digital scale (a normal kitchen scale will usually do the trick). Tip: Make sure the scale you\u2019re using has a tare button.<\/p>\n

4: You don\u2019t need recipes<\/span><\/p>\n

There are roughly 600 billion e liquid recipes online (okay, maybe not that many but there\u2019s still a lot), and who\u2019s to say which ones are good and which ones are awful. However, there\u2019s no need to use a recipe at all when using One Shot<\/a> flavour concentrates. One Shot concentrates are blended flavours often based on popular e liquids such as Red Astaire<\/a> and Goose Juice<\/a>. We specialise in One Shot concentrates here at ELFC, with over 250 to choose from!<\/p>\n

5: It\u2019s much easier than it may seem<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people are put off making their own e liquid because they see it as complicated or difficult to do. The truth is quite the opposite. Also, you don\u2019t need to spend money on a load of equipment to get going. For example, all you really need is a One Shot flavour concentrate, 1 nicotine shot<\/a>, some PG\/VG and an empty 30ml bottle and you can make 30ml of 6mg nicotine e liquid. Simple!<\/p>\n
